the facts about perfume.

Note - This post is an addendum to the rant about perfume I wrote above.

The following information was provided to me by our local hospital (which is a scent-free facility):

1. Studies have shown that personal care products such as perfume, cologne, hair products and lotions, as well as scented flowers like lilies and hyacinths can cause serious problems for people (like me) with asthma, allergies and migraines.
2. No agency regulates the fragrance industry, yet more than 4,000 chemicals are used in fragrances.
3. Acetone, formaldehyde, toluene, benzaldehyde, benzylalchohol, ethanol, limonene, linalool, and methylene-chloride are common scent ingredients in personal care products and are all listed as hazardous waste!
4. Scented personal care products may cause respiratory distress and allergic-type reactions in many individuals (like me).

As Oprah always says, "when you know better, you do better".

Now you know.

Please find some other way to smell nice. Natural, chemical-free fragrances are a start, but even those can give me, and others, a very painful headache. Thanks.
