before you speak.

"Before you speak, ask yourself: Is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve the silence?" - Shirdi Sai Baba, Indian saint

I love the picture and the quote. I need to work on a couple of those things. Especially the is it necessary and does it improve the silence.

I just read a little story about someone that lost a loved one. One friend came over and consoled with words wisdom and such and he couldn't wait for them to leave. The next friend came over and just sat beside him for an hour and just would respond if somethng was said. Case in point was that the 2nd friend listened. I need to do that more. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone followed that?

I need to listen more! I am always butting into the conversation before the other person is finished talking. I need to count to 10 or something before I open my big mouth. I just can't help myself. I talk and talk and talk, but at least I'm trying to make sure I'm not hurting feelings by the things I am saying. It's all a work in progress. Great quote!

Absolutely beautiful, Carolyn.

Wonderful... both. My Mom aways said If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.

I do try to live by that, also... sometimes it's hard! ;-)

Now there's a quote to make one pause.

Thanks for cruising by my place!

Those words are so true. Just this morning I was thinking that in my younger days, when i was living in New York, I was so quick to sound off, generally with a smart-ass comment. Now, thankfully, I'm much more gentle, slower to respond, more inclined to listen and find a resolution. And actually feel better in mind and body.

Beautiful photo. I have a collection of orchid plants in my living room window.

BTW, this week I'm giving away a subscription to Budget Travel magazine as a further inspiration to The Grand Tour theme! Stop by and tell me where you want to go on your dream holiday.

Good quote. And here's another that I love - not that you asked - that I have written in my diary; 'Let not your mind run on what you lack as much as on what you have already.' (Marcus Aurelius)
